Discovery hall and tea room
Come enjoy a relaxing cup of tea at the Discovery Hall and Tea Room. Tea and a cookie will be provided throughout both Saturday and Sunday of the Kinetic Carnivale weekend. The Discovery Hall and Tea Room is also the place to catch historical re-enactors, fascinating lectures, and participate in steampunk crafts.
Some of our exhilarating activities include:
Matilda Bancroft Talk:
Willits local Kim Bancroft is the great-great-granddaughter of the historian and book collector Hubert Howe Bancroft, whose collection on the Pacific West initiated the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley. Kim edited H.H. Bancroft’s 1890 autobiography Literary Industries, recently published by Heyday. She will perform as her great-great-grandmother Matilda Bancroft, discussing in character the lively writing and visionary work of Mr. Bancroft with a focus on the contradictory role of women in his life and times.
Victorian Sweatshop Talk:
Steve Heeter, proprietor of the Victorian Sweatshop, who collects, restores and runs antique sewing machines will discuss what it was like to work in a sweatshop during the Victorian Era.
